Let’s begin with a questions: who doesn’t like parties? Obviously each person may have their own idea of a party, but overall everyone likes to have fun, especially kids. What can possibly be more special of a celebration than a celebration about YOU! Of course as adults a birthday also means getting one year older, which is probably not the most exciting day, but for kids it’s a day they reach a new milestone filled with new opportunities and more possibilities. It is a 1st day of a new step. There is so much to accomplish and so many dreams to fulfill, but that’s all after the celebration.
For kids their birthday is the most exciting day of the year, definitely more important than any other holiday. They count down month, weeks, days, hours and minutes until this special day comes, asking their mom and dad “Is it today?”. Seeing this anticipation as parents we cannot stay neutral, we want to make this special day the best one yet for our child.
Why is it important to have a party celebration for you child?
1. It is a self-esteem booster. As important as it is to teach your child to be generous and caring towards others, it is okay once a year to let them be a little selfish and feel like they are the center of the universe. It is a great feeling for kids to see all their friends, who arrive to see them on their special day, bring colourful bags with presents and wish them a “Happy Birthday”. These actions and words might feel overdone for adults, but for kids this is reassurance that they are cared for by many little people just like them.
2. Creates friendships. It is up to you to either invite close friends or the whole class, but either way parties help kids socialize in large groups, which is not as easy as you may think. Socializing in large groups is much different from having a chat with a friend. You have to consider all the people around you, and avoid whispering to your friend or alienating one person from the group. Children learn how to be social and interact with other people in a relaxed atmosphere by hosting events and attending their friend’s event.
3. Great memories, which will last a life time. We love to hear when kids come back as a guest to their friend birthday at Fairyland Theatre and tell us all about their birthday party that was 6 month ago. They remember each detail and it makes us feel wonderful that we took part in creating this wonderful memory. Think about your birthdays from your childhood, which ones do you remember the most?

I didn’t realize how important birthday parties were for children! The part of this article I really like in this article how it says that it’s okay to let your kids to be a little selfish on their birthday. This makes a lot of sense because it makes them feel special. Just don’t make it a regular thing!
